Uganda president lifts curfew on motorcycle taxis

Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has lifted an almost two-year curfew affecting motorcycle taxis popularly known as boda bodas.

The boda bodas were restricted from operating between 19:00 and 05:00 local time in March 2020 when coronavirus cases in the country started rising.

The president said criminal elements who were using this form of transport would be tracked down using digital tools.

President Museveni said boda boda operators should resume work and contribute to their household incomes:

Boda bodas are the most common means of transport in Uganda.

The long-running curfew had been criticised with people calling for the operators to be allowed to earn a living.
