Flawless Spintex Knights outclass Ghana Police in Accra Basketball League

Spintex Knights moved to second place on the Accra Basketball League Men’s Division 1 league log, recording a commanding 71-45 win over the Ghana Police Service on Wednesday, May 25, 2023.

The game, which had been postponed due to inclement weather, took place at the Prisons Basketball Court in Accra.

Despite entering the match in third place, debutants Spintex Knights had the advantage of three games in hand on league leaders Braves and two games on second-placed Reformers.

Determined to capitalize on their opportunity, the Knights showcased their dominance by securing their seventh consecutive win of the season, propelling them to second place in the standings.

From the opening tip-off, Spintex Knights asserted their authority, with the first quarter ending in a lopsided 26-6 lead.

Notably, former Police player and current Knights captain, Elvis Pobi Siaw, delivered a stellar performance, sinking two three-pointers and making significant contributions on the offensive end.

As the game progressed into the second quarter, Spintex Knights made strategic substitutions, providing their bench players with valuable court time. This decision allowed Ghana Police Service a glimmer of hope for a comeback, but the Knights managed to maintain their substantial advantage, leading 40-18 at halftime.

The third quarter saw Spintex Knights consolidate their dominance, extending their lead to 55-27. Head coach Selorm Thomas called upon his experienced players, including the impressive James Amotoe, who found his scoring touch and made key contributions to the team’s offensive output.

Determined to finish strong, the Knights intensified their efforts in the final quarter. Their cohesive teamwork and relentless defensive pressure proved too much for Ghana Police Service to handle, as Spintex Knights sealed the victory with a final score of 71-45.

The Assistant Coach Elinam Justice of Spintex Knights expressed his team’s unwavering commitment to securing the top spot in the league. While acknowledging the team’s brilliance in the first quarter, he emphasized that there is still room for improvement and that they aim to deliver their best basketball throughout the season.

Coach Justice also commended Ghana Police Service for providing a tough challenge and initiating a mini-revival during the game. The Knights’ captain, Elvis Pobi Siaw, nicknamed “Arrow” due to his precision shooting, echoed his coach’s sentiments, emphasizing the team’s determination not to underestimate any opponent as they pursue their title aspirations.

With their remarkable performance against Ghana Police Service and undefeated campaign thus far after seven games, Spintex Knights have firmly established themselves as strong contenders in the Accra Basketball League Men’s Division 1. Basketball enthusiasts eagerly anticipate their upcoming matches as they continue their quest for league glory.
