Medeama defeat Asante Kotoko as TnA Stadium is inaugurated in style

Medeama SC kicked off a new era with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Asante Kotoko at the newly inaugurated TnA Stadium in Tarkwa.

The friendly match, the first-ever at the over $13 million facility, saw Medeama secure a memorable victory that left the home fans buzzing.

The stadium was packed with excited spectators and notable figures, including Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif and Ghana Football Association President Kurt E S Okraku.

Kotoko came out strong, nearly taking an early lead in the third minute when Albert Amoah’s cross was intercepted by Michael Enu.

Medeama thought they had opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Diawisie Taylor found the net, but the goal was ruled offside. However, just four minutes later, Nana Kofi Babil made no mistake, pouncing on Enu’s header to put the home side ahead.

Medeama had a golden opportunity to double their lead in the 31st minute with a penalty, but Taylor’s shot was saved, keeping the scoreline tight.

Kotoko fought back in the second half, and their persistence paid off in the 64th minute when substitute Bernard Somuah slotted home a well-worked team goal to level the match.

As the clock ticked, it seemed like the game was heading for a draw, but Medeama had other plans.

In the 89th minute, substitute Prosper Boakye latched onto a free kick and tapped in the winning goal, sending the Tarkwa faithful into raptures and ensuring a perfect start for their new home.

The victory marks a perfect start for Medeama at their new home, while Kotoko will look to regroup before the start of the new league season on September 6th.

With its state-of-the-art facilities, the TnA Stadium is set to become a formidable fortress for Medeama in the Ghana Premier League.
