NPP Manifesto Launch: Bawumia unveils plans to revive Ghana Premier League and support clubs

The Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has outlined his commitment to revitalizing the Ghana Premier League and supporting football clubs if elected President in December.

Speaking at the launch of the NPP’s 2024 Manifesto, which he described as offering bold solutions, Dr. Bawumia introduced comprehensive and sustainable sports development policies. These include measures related to funding, training, tax incentives, and direct support for sports.

Dr. Bawumia stated that his administration would actively work to “support the revival of the Premier League and clubs, to improve their commercial viability and create related jobs.”

Detailing his plans, he announced that his government would provide direct assistance to Premier League clubs by “directing policy through the National Lotteries Authority and the Gaming Commission to establish and fund a Sports Employment Module to help clubs with operational expenses, including player remuneration.”

Additionally, Dr. Bawumia committed to “providing a bus to each Premier League club” to alleviate transportation challenges.

To further encourage corporate investment in sports, he revealed plans to “use tax incentives, including a flat tax, to attract private sector investments in sports.”
