NPP Manifesto Launch: See Bawumia’s plan to ensure Ghana wins medals at the next Olympics

The Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has set his sights on Olympic glory for Ghana at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Despite the nation’s considerable potential in various sporting disciplines, Ghana has underperformed at the Olympics, having secured only five medals in its history, with just one of those coming in the Fourth Republic at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago.

In a bid to reverse this trend and fully realize Ghana’s sporting potential, Dr. Bawumia has outlined comprehensive development plans that his future government intends to implement. These plans include sustainable funding, targeted development programs, and an Olympic-specific initiative.

Speaking at the launch of the NPP Manifesto in Takoradi on Sunday, Dr. Bawumia announced the launch of an “Operation Olympics Glory” program. This initiative aims to dedicate resources towards the preparation and readiness of Ghanaian athletes for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

“We will start an ‘Operation Olympics Glory’ program by dedicating resources towards the preparation and readiness of athletes for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, USA,” Dr. Bawumia stated.

As part of this ambitious program, Dr. Bawumia revealed that his government would strategically target specific sports where Ghana has the potential to win medals.

This initiative forms part of a broader vision for sports development in Ghana. Dr. Bawumia also announced the establishment of the Ghana School Sports Secretariat, a special-purpose vehicle designed to drive sustainable grassroots sports development through schools, in collaboration with stakeholders such as the Ghana Education Service and sports federations.

With these plans, Dr. Bawumia hopes to secure Ghana’s place on the global sporting stage and bring home the Olympic medals that have long eluded the nation.
