Orimoloye targets Grand Slam after winning Accra Tennis Champs

After winning this year’s Accra Tennis Championship Under 9-14 category last Saturday, Whitney Orimoloye, aims to pursue tennis to the highest level and eventually play in the Grand Slam.

The nine-year-old pupil of the Ahtoo Montessori School at Caprice in Accra told the Daily Graphic in an interview yesterday she wants to be one of the few tennis players from Africa to win the major international competition.

Accordingly, the young talented player had begun working hard towards her future goals by training constantly with the hope of making it to the Grand Slam one day.

Whitney, who was born to Nigerian parents in Ghana and started playing the game at age one, said she always looked up to Serena Williams and hoped to become a great player just like the American tennis star one day.

This is the fourth time Whitney has participated in the competition, with her previous outings ending at the quarter-final stage.
