Hacajaka, others for Accra Visual Arts Week

Ghanaian artist, Harry Agyeman, known widely as Hacajaka, is among artists to participate in this year’s Accra Visual Arts Week (AVIEW) scheduled for five venues from April 4 to April 11, 2023.

AVIEW has, after a two-decade absence, returned to help ginger up passion for art in the nation’s capital. It is being organised by the Pinnacle Arts Centre in collaboration with the Konyo Museum of Ghanaian Art.

Venues to host the week-long art affair are the African University College of Communications (AUCC) at Adabraka, Dei Centre at Tesano, Deo Gratias Photo Studio at James Town,  Furnat at  Nyaniba Estates,  Osu and the Pinnacle Arts Centre at Dzorwulu.

Apart from Hacajaka, other artists being featured at AVIEW 2023 include painters Mark Buku and James Cudjoe, photographers Brooks Anne Robinson and Isaac Vanderpuije and unique hangings specialist,  Patrick Tagoe-Turkson.

New paintings by Hacajaka will be the attraction when AVIEW 2023 formally opens at 6.00pm at the Pinnacle Arts Centre on April 4.  He has been, since his days at Achimota School, a difficult creative to pigeonhole because his works always breathe with innovative ideas.

What he has for show at the Pinnacle Arts Centre are a progression of ideas some of which appeared in some of his works  around 1996 but which have been  refreshed and taken in completely new directions. The artist ever eager to embrace change and he has done so in a bold manner with his new series of paintings.

AUCC will host Mark Buku’s paintings, Brooks Anne Robinson’s photographs and hangings by Patrick Tagoe-Turkson. The Dei Centre, Tesano will show paintings and sculptures by various artists while the Deo Gratias Photo Studio at James Town offers vintage material from the archives of Isaac Vanderpuije. Furnat at Osu will exhibit paintings by James Cudjoe.

It is hoped AVIEW 2023 will get art enthusiasts in the nation’s capital stepping out to patronize contemporary art as portrayed by the various artists at the five venue.
