Accra Lions thrash Aduana 3-0 to throw league race open

Accra Lions caused sensation with a 3-0 thrashing of Aduana FC at the Accra Stadium on Saturday night, throwing the league title ambition of the league leaders out of gear in the process.

The massive victory changed the dynamics in the race for the 2022/2023 betPawa Premier League championship, following Bechem United’s 1-0 home win over visiting Leg on Cities at the Nana Fosu Gyeabuor Park in Bechem earlier in the day.

Emmanuel Avornyo’s first half goal powered the Hunters back to the second position with 51 points – just a point adrift of Aduana FC – boosting Medeama’s chances to climb to the top in case they beat Hearts of Oak in Accra on Sunday.

Playing under floodlights, Accra Lions set the tone for Aduana’s misery through Baba Apiiga after 28 minutes to take a 1-0 first half lead.

However, Aduana staged a fruitless comeback after recess only for Evans Botchway to worsen their plight with the second goal after 76 minutes.

Having gained the upper hand over their opponents, Coach Ibrahim Tanko’s men continued to probe for more goals and were rewarded in the 82nd minute when top marksman Seidu Basit put the visitors beyomd recovery.
