World Armwrestling President and Secretary to visit Ghana ahead of Africa Armwrestling Champs

Mr. Assen Hadjitodorov, the President of the World Armwrestling Federation (WAF), and his Secretary, Mr. Mircea Simionescu-Simicel, are set to embark on a working and familiarization visit to Ghana next Wednesday.

The visit aims to strengthen ties with major sports stakeholders, and government officials, and to support the upcoming 12th Africa Armwrestling Championship scheduled for June 21 to 25, 2023, in Accra.

During his time in Ghana, President Assen will engage in discussions with key figures in the sports industry and explore opportunities to advance the development of armwrestling in Africa. He is particularly interested in supporting the efforts of the Armwrestling Federation of Africa (AFA) in hosting a world-class championship.

Additionally, President Assen has a vested interest in Ghana as the country aims to participate in the 2023 Africa Games, and he will discuss Ghana’s preparations for this event. Furthermore, discussions will revolve around Africa’s hosting of the 2024 World Championship.

Ghana secured the bid to host the Africa Armwrestling Championship for the second time last year and has made significant progress in preparations to ensure a successful event. More than 20 countries from across Africa will converge at the GNAT Hall in Accra to compete for top honors. This year’s competition will also witness the debut of several nations, including the Central African Republic, Congo Republic, Mauritania, Sierra Leone, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, and Somalia.

Armwrestling has experienced remarkable growth both in Africa and on the global stage, gaining recognition as one of the fastest-growing sports. The 12th Africa Armwrestling Championship is organized by the Ghana Armwrestling Federation with technical support from the Armwrestling Federation of Africa (AFA) and the World Armwrestling Federation (WAF).

The event has garnered support from various sponsors, including Ghana Gas, Adamus Resources, National Health Insurance Scheme, Dzata Cement, Imperial Homes, Stanbic Bank, Alisa Hotels, Special Ice, The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Ghana Tourism Authority, and K-Balm Ointment.

The visit of the WAF President and Secretary to Ghana signifies the growing importance of armwrestling on the global stage and highlights Ghana’s role in hosting prestigious armwrestling events.

The anticipated championship promises thrilling matches and showcases the talent and determination of armwrestlers from across Africa.
