Blakk Rasta’s Kuchoko Roots Festival tomorrow

REGGAE musician and radio presenter Blakk Rasta is gearing up for the eighth edition of his annual Kuchoko Roots Festival scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 24 at the Alliance Francaise, Accra.

The festival is aimed at creating a solid platform for African Reggae music which he has named Kuchoko.

According to Blakk Rasta, Kuchoko is the future of Reggae as it combines Jamaican and African energies and cultures to propel a renewed force into action.

On the bill for this year’s edition are Shatta Wale, Ras Kuuku, Samuel Owusu, Ras Simposh from Burkina Faso, Qshan Deya from St. Vincent, Taj Weekes from St. Lucia, Michael Fabulous from Jamaica and host, Blakk Rasta.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, the Barack Obama singer said apart from performances from the artistes on the bill, patrons will also be treated to free ‘koko with koose and maasa’ and a variety of finger foods.

He noted that the annual concert gives young musicians the opportunity to exhibit their talents.

“Young musicians who have passed through the event have told me countless times how it has benefited them.

“You need to put on your A-game to be on the show. It is purely a live band event and patrons are watching what you are bringing on board so you need to be good,” he said.

Blakk Rasta said that previous editions have been awesome and prepared the way for the huge following Kuchoko has today.

“This edition is going to be the biggest as we have the Kooko Roots Festival added to it. Very ingeniously indigenous,” he added.
