Tobinco Group donates GH¢100,000 to Medeama for winning Premier League

The Executive Chairman of the Tobinco Group of Companies, Nana Amo Tobbin I, has gifted players of Medeama SC GH¢100,000 and some medical supplies for winning the 2022/23 betPawa Premier League.

He also pledged to partner Medeama SC for the 2023-2024 CAF Champions League by giving the team monthly support.
In addition, the Tobinco boss pledged to provide life insurance packages for all the players, with a further promise to purchase a bus for the team if they win the Champions League.

Nana Amo Tobbin I, who is also the Dwantuahene of the Apinto Traditional Area in the Western Region, made the presentation when the entire playing body, technical handlers and management officials of Medeama visited the head office of the Tobinco Group of Companies, along the Spintex Road in Accra, to present the league trophy and medals they won last week.

Significant triumph
The Tarkwa-based club won their first ever league title in style with a home victory over Tamale City at the Akoon Park. It was the first time in over four decades that a club from the Western Region had won Ghana’s topflight competition since Sekondi Hasaacas won the league in 1977, making Medeama’s success even more significant.

Led by the club’s president, Moses Armah, and the Member of Parliament for Tarkwa Nsuaem and the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, George Mireku Duker; Medeama presented the league trophy and a winner’s medal to the Tobinco Group boss who hails from Tarkwa-Nsuem and has been a lifetime supporter of the team.

Nana Amo Tobbin I commended the club for putting up an incredible performance and bringing honour to the people of Wassa and advised the players and officials to not be complacent after their biggest success.

He advised the club’s management to keep their best players and sell them to foreign teams after they have been well groomed and gained the needed experience to increase their value on the transfer market.

Honour to Wassaman
For his part, Mr Mireku Duker said he was awed by Medeama’s performance in the league and, therefore, led the team to Parliament in recognition of the honour they have brought to Wassaman.

He added that he deemed it important to visit Nana Amo Tobbin I to thank him for supporting the club, the people of Tarkwa and to celebrate the historic feat chalked up by Medeama as Ghana’s champion club.

Mr Armah, on behalf of the club, thanked the Tobinco boss for the donation and his continuous support towards the team, and, therefore, dedicated the league triumph to their benefactor.

He recalled the financial support extended to the club in 2015 when they won the FA Cup and qualified to represent Ghana in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, assured Medeama of support from Ghanaian journalists to help the team progress further.
