Gadayi faces fierce contest at GNPC Ghana’s Fastest Human

Edwin Gadayi’s reign as the dominant sprinter in the Ashanti Region will face its toughest challenge yet as top athletes gather at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi for the highly anticipated GNPC Ghana’s Fastest Human competition tomorrow.

Known as a hotbed for track and field talents in Ghana, the Ashanti Region has produced exceptional athletes such as Dorcas Gyimah and Kofi Okyir who have proudly represented the region and Ghana and passed the torch to the likes of Gadayi and Desmond Aryee to keep the region in the limelight of athletics, especially the sprint events.

While not much has been heard of Desmond since his victory in the GNPC Ghana’s Fastest Human competition in 2017, Gadayi has become a household name and one of the leading lights in the premier athletics talent hunt competition in recent years.

Having reclaimed the regional crown last year after losing it in 2020, Gadayi defied the odds and emerged victorious despite fierce competition from Solomon Hammond and Enoch Fosuhene.

However, as emerging and energetic sprinters rise to the occasion, it remains uncertain whether Gadayi will successfully defend his crown and withstand the challenge from the determined youngsters aiming to leave their mark in the regional competition tomorrow for a place in the national final.
