Wasiru Mohammed sure to redeem image

Former World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Global super bantamweight titlist, Wasiru ‘Gyatabi’ Mohammed, has acknowledged his long absence from the ring as a wake-up call to work harder to redeem his image.

Despite being inactive for three years, Mohammed believes that his talent and passion for boxing will not be affected since the sport runs through his blood.

Mohammed’s last fight was in January 2020, where he secured a seventh-round stoppage win over Ghislain Vodounhessi to successfully defend his title for the second time. Since then, he has not been in the ring due to a managerial and promotional dispute with his manager, John Manfo.

In the interview with the Graphic Sports, the undefeated fighter expressed his commitment to turn his period of inactivity into a learning experience.

He said the time away from the ring had given him the opportunity to reflect on his career and assess his strengths and weaknesses.

“I don’t think that boxing left me these past few years. I know I had issues in the past, but the sport is in my blood.

“The only thing left for me to do is to put in the hard work to achieve whatever I want to do in the sport,” Mohammed said.

It’s common for boxers to go through phases of inactivity in their careers, and while it can be a challenging period, it can also serve as a chance for personal and professional growth.

As long as he stays focused and maintains his commitment to boxing, Mohammed can still pursue his aspirations and make strides in the boxing world.
