Ajax Director provides update on Mohammed Kudus transfer

Sven Mislintat, the sporting director of Ajax, has dismissed any immediate transfer developments regarding Mohammed Kudus, despite recent speculation surrounding the talented attacker.

During the 2022-23 season, the 22-year-old showcased his impressive form, making 42 appearances for the Dutch club in all competitions. Kudus scored 18 goals and provided seven assists during this period. Additionally, he represented Ghana in the 2022 World Cup, scoring twice in the tournament. As a result, several clubs have expressed interest in signing him during this summer transfer window.

While Kudus still has two years remaining on his contract with Ajax, reports suggest he could be available for approximately £40 million.

Arsenal and Chelsea have emerged as potential suitors for the forward. However, conflicting reports have emerged about his preferences. A recent report indicated that Chelsea was leading the race for his signature, while Kudus allegedly prefers a move to Arsenal, especially as Chelsea will not participate in the Champions League during the 2023-24 season.

In response to the transfer speculations, Sven Mislintat acknowledged that there have been informal enquiries from clubs, but he downplayed the seriousness of the interest. He stated, “I don’t expect an offer very soon, although you know that things can be different in the football world. Perhaps the interest is not as serious as everyone thinks.”

In a separate interview with Aglemeen Dagblad, Mislintat stressed that there is no fixed deadline for the transfer but added that agreements must be in place to secure replacements if Kudus or Edson Alvarez were to leave Ajax. He emphasized the importance of maintaining good relationships with the players and transparency during this process.

Manchester United is also reportedly monitoring the situation closely, compiling a list of alternatives to Atalanta BC forward Rasmus Hojlund.

While Brighton & Hove Albion was linked with Kudus earlier in the summer, the rumors surrounding a potential move to the Amex Stadium have subsided.

Kudus joined Ajax from Nordsjaelland in 2020, and since then, he has made 84 appearances for the Eredivisie side, contributing 23 goals and 11 assists to their campaigns.
