Despite Media’s Abigail Ashley graduates top of class in fashion

Radio and Television presenter, Abigail Ashley, has emerged the overall Best Student in Fashion at the GH Fashion School Graduation ceremony.

Additionally, she went home with Most Promising Fashion Student, Best Student in Garment Construction, Best Student in Fashion Business and Best Student award.

The host of ‘My Health, My Life’ and ‘Mo Ho Y3’ on UTV and Okay FM, is also a health advocate and the founder of the non-profit organisation, Behind My Smiles Foundation, which focuses on kidney health awareness.

Talking to Graphic Showbiz about how she joggled school with her media job, Ms Ashley who is now also a fashion designer explained, “For the first year that’s 2021, I was still home recovering from the Kidney Transplant coupled with Covid 19, so it was quite easy but later when I resumed to work it was tiring.

“I had to switch the morning school to afternoon school, because I’m on the morning show team during the weekdays on both TV and Radio and work starts by 5:30am.”

However, she stated that her passion for the fashion industry kept her going.

“It was not easy but the passion kept going, GH Fashion School is purely 70 per cent practical and 30 per cent theory so if you miss a class, you are in trouble. Sometimes you get home with so many sewing assignments but you need to finish and Abigail Ashley from UTV I have to do my work, so you can imagine the pressure,” she said.

On how her journey to venture into fashion started, Ms Ashley stated that it was boredom.

“I got bored staying home the whole year. Remember I had my kidney transplant in December 2019, and 2020 Covid 19 set in, with lockdown, and my case was extraordinary so I had to stay back for infection prevention etc.

“So, in January 2021, I said to myself I need to acquire a new skill and fashion came to mind. Even though I’ve never touched a machine before I want to do something new and I made it, in the end, I made myself-proud,” she noted

Consequently, Ms Ashley encouraged young ladies to go for greater height because everything is achievable once you put your mind to it.

“There is nothing you put your mind to, that you can’t do, everything is possible just believe in yourself. The hurdles will be there but keep your focus,” she stated.
