AS Monaco signs Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu in €15 Million deal from Southampton

Mohammed Salisu, the Ghanaian defender, has completed a move to AS Monaco from English Championship club Southampton, as confirmed by both clubs on Tuesday.

The five-year contract with the Ligue 1 side was sealed for a reported fee of approximately 15 million euros ($16.53 million) for the 24-year-old player.

Salisu initially joined Southampton from Real Valladolid in August 2020.

During his time at Southampton, he appeared in nearly 70 Premier League matches until the team faced relegation in the previous season.

Having made his debut for the Ghana national team in September 2022, Salisu was selected by manager Otto Addo to represent Ghana in the 2022 World Cup held in Qatar.

He played a crucial role, starting in all three group games and even scored a goal in Ghana’s sole victory over South Korea.

Monaco, who finished sixth in Ligue 1 last season, will be looking to bolster their squad with Salisu’s addition as they aim to compete for higher positions in the league.
