THE Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Ghana Association of Film and Television Arts (GAFTA), George Bosompim says contrary to some stakeholders blaming the lack of cinema halls as one of the reasons for the decline in the movie industry, there were spaces that could be used to premiere movies without necessarily building cinema halls.

According to him, there were a lot of spaces at university campuses and hotels, among others, that could be used to premiere movies.

“We have not filled all those spaces at the halls of the university campuses and hotels and we are asking for cinemas to be built. We need to go and inspect such places and start using them for our movies.

“If under tents we were able to get people to pay to watch movies, why can’t we do that with halls on our university campuses and hotels? he queried.

He also advised all filmmakers to be tactical and learn all the rudiments that come with the making of movies.

 He asked filmmakers not to just wake up and start shooting movies but educate themselves with all the regulations that govern the industry so they were not found wanting.

Mr Bosompim made the call as a panellist at the Graphic Showbiz Forum, on the theme Future of the Ghana Movie Industry: Bright or Bleak, held on Tuesday, July 25 at the offices of MultiChoice Ghana in Accra.

“The movie industry is a very huge area and requires a lot of tactical approaches. For instance, before a filmmaker does a movie, he or she must see a marketer with the script and get to know their target audience.

“You don’t finish shooting a movie and now move out chasing sponsors to help you push it. The marketers will be able to tell you whether the movie will do well or not and which target audience will buy the movie before you start shooting,” he said.
