Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe: Kurt deserves a second term

A former Ghana Football Association president, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has thrown his weight behind Kurt Okraku as the most ideal candidate among those seeking to lead the FA during the upcoming elections.

The incumbent Kurt Okraku is seeking to be given the mandate by delegates to lead the local football governing body for a second term, with a former FA vice president, George Afriyie, determined to unseat him in the next election slated for September 27.

However, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe told Graphic Sports that the incumbent’s contribution towards the development of the game in the country was so commendable that he deserved to be given another term to complete his vision for Ghana football.

Performance
Besides, he believes the former MTN FA Cup committee chairman has performed creditably well because his first tenure had been devoid of scandals because of certain measures he put in place to enhance the image of the association.

”I want to endorse Kurt Okraku for the upcoming FA elections and my reasons are very simple. We came out of very turbulent waters not long ago. The FA was in the hands of a group appointed by FIFA and Kurt has been able to stabilise things.

The man whose tenure saw the introduction of elections of FA presidents for the football association said based on how the current president had introduced stability to the association, he was of the conviction that when he was given another term he could catapult the fortunes of the FA to a different height, and that ‘I think he must be given another term to finish his work.

Taking FA far
”He (Okraku) has been able to come out with some projects and I believe strongly that if he is given the opportunity, he will take the FA far”, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe said.

In his opinion, it would be suicidal going in for an untested individual when Kurt could be given the opportunity to complete his second term since he might not come back after his tenure had expired.

”This time round its only two terms unlike previously where one could contest as many as he wants. Its better we give him the opportunity than go in for somebody who has not learnt the ropes properly”, he said.

He also slammed those calling for the removal of Kurt for alleged lack of accountability and claims of what they described as operating a family and friends FA and directed them to test the legal system and stop the unfounded allegations.

”All those making that allegation know what to do. They have a committee responsible for such things so all that they have to do is to take it to that committee”, he stated.
