Theo Walcott: Former England and Arsenal forward retires from football

Theo Walcott, the seasoned forward renowned for his stints at Arsenal, Everton, and Southampton, has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 34.

This decision marks the culmination of an illustrious 18-year senior career, during which he participated in over 560 matches and netted 129 goals.

Notably, Walcott’s journey in the sport was punctuated by his inclusion in Sven-Göran Eriksson’s 2006 World Cup squad, an appointment that arrived even before he had made his England debut.

He further secured his place in history as the youngest male player to represent the England national team.

Walcott’s prodigious talent also saw him claim another record as the youngest player to achieve an England hat-trick, a feat he accomplished at the age of 19. Over the course of his international career, he contributed eight goals across 47 appearances for his country.

Reflecting on his retirement, Walcott conveyed his appreciation through an Instagram post. He expressed gratitude for the unwavering support he had received throughout his remarkable journey, emphasizing the camaraderie shared with fellow players and the creation of indelible memories on the football pitch.

“The first moment I put my football boots on aged 10, was the start of a special journey for me,” Walcott wrote on Instagram. “The support shown to me throughout this time has been incredible in every way imaginable and I am truly grateful. I’ve shared the football pitch with so many incredible players and we have created so many unforgettable memories.”
