Joseph Paul Amoah misses semifinal spot in men’s 200m at World Athletics Championships

Ghanaian sprinter Joseph Paul Amoah’s bid for a spot in the semifinals of the men’s 200m event at the World Athletics Championships has fallen short following his fifth-place finish in the preliminary heats.

Amoah, often referred to as Joe Paul, competed in heat 6 and concluded with a time of 20.56 seconds. Regrettably, this performance was insufficient to secure him a berth in the semifinal stage of the competition, hosted in Budapest.

During his heat, Amoah shared the track with prominent names including USA’s Erriyon Knighton, Canada’s Andre de Grasse, and South Africa’s Sinesipho Dambile. However, Amoah’s time only earned him a fifth-place position, trailing the aforementioned athletes. Erriyon Knighton clinched the top position in the heat.

The outcome also marks the conclusion of Ghana’s representation in the men’s 200m event. James Dadzie, another Ghanaian competitor, withdrew from the heats, potentially due to a hamstring injury.

Joe Paul’s and Dadzie’s injuries leaves Ghana’s plans for the relays in jeopardy.
