Legon Cities mourns the loss of goalkeeper Sylvester Sackey

In a sombre announcement, Legon Cities FC has confirmed the passing of their goalkeeper, Sylvester Sackey, after a brief bout of illness.

At the age of 26, Sackey succumbed on Tuesday, leaving the club and its community in mourning. In a heartfelt social media post, the club expressed their profound sorrow over the untimely departure of the talented goalkeeper.

“With heavy hearts, we regret to inform you of the untimely passing of our goalkeeper, Sylvester Sackey. Sackey has been an integral part of our team for the past four seasons, holding the position of first-choice goalkeeper for a significant portion of the last two seasons,” the post conveyed.

His loss is keenly felt by everyone connected with the club.

The club said it was maintaining close contact with Sackey’s family and will outline subsequent steps in the days ahead.

Throughout the previous season of the Ghana Premier League, Sackey exhibited his prowess, making 19 appearances for Cities. His exceptional saves contributed to the team’s performance, culminating in seven clean sheets, despite conceding 20 goals.
