Retired Ghanaian footballer and former Black Stars skipper, Asamoah Gyan has expressed utmost disappointment at bloggers for giving unnecessary attention to mental health advocate Abena Korkor’s ‘image soiling’ rants.
He mentioned that being accorded the title of celebrity comes with lots of hard work and accomplishments in other jurisdictions but bloggers have made it cheap for the likes of Abena Korkor to parade themselves as one in Ghana.
“We all know Abena Korkor is battling some mental health challenges but these bloggers will hurriedly give credence and report on everything she says just for content.
“How can you even take the allegations of Abena Korkor, who we all know it’s not too well seriously?
“But these bloggers will feed on whatever she says for content for more followers and clicks even when we all know she’s tarnishing the images of reputable people,” he stated.
The former Black Star captain said such bloggers were just hungry and entreated them to be opened about their financial challenges and get help.
“Bloggers, if you need money, come to us and don’t let some people influence you into making them celebrities because you just carry anything for your blogs,” he stated in a viral video sighted by Graphic Showbiz.
Asamoah Gyan was reacting to allegations leveled against him by Abena Korkor that he and former Black Stars player and captain, Stephan Appiah were making sexual advances at her and threatened to expose them.
However, Asamoah Gyan denied the said claims and was emphatic that there was no iota of truth in Abena’s allegations.
According to Asamoah, he was touched to offer help to Abena when he got to know about her mental health challenges.
However, he realised his close association will spell doom for his reputation and distanced himself from her.
Obviously hurt by his decision, Asamoah Gyan said Abena Korkor decided to as usual, go on a tarnishing image spree against his person but he was ready to face her squarely “You think I am so cheap for you to have. This is Asamoah Gyan and let me tell you, I will not be quiet because I can be worse than you. I am ready to match you boot for boot,” he said.
Even though the said video of Asamoah Gyan is believed to be an old video he recorded earlier this year, Abena still responded to him yesterday.
Abena Korkor’s response
In a turn of events, Abena Korkor has responded to Asamoah Gyan for making light of her mental health conditions.
“You call yourself an international footballer but you don’t even know about bipolar condition and talking ill of my mental health condition. You should really be ashamed for this,” she stated.
