Traffic news: Heavy unusual ‘traffic jam’ on Pokuase – Achimota highway Wednesday morning

Vehicles along the Nsawam road in Accra, that is from Pokuase to Achimota on the N6 highway have been affected by a heavy gridlock on the stretch on Wednesday morning.

The unusual heavy traffic gridlock this morning is causing frustration and delays for commuters who are plying that stretch from home to work.

This main N6 Highway links Nsawam in the Eastern Region to Accra through the Pokuase-Achimota stretch.

As of 9:30 am, the gridlock was still very heavy, creating confusion in the area.

A clash between some land guards and wood sellers at Taifa junction in Accra on Wednesday morning has reportedly resulted in the death of one person with others injured.

Graphic Online gathers that the land owner, whose property the wood sellers have been operating from at Taifa junction – Muus Timber Market is trying to evict the wood sellers from the area.

But the wood sellers are not ready to move and have been protesting.

On Wednesday morning [Sept 20], suspected land guards reportedly stormed the area to forcibly eject the wood sellers.

Some eyewitnesses have told Graphic Online that the said land guards, some of whom were armed fired shots.

It was during that moment that some people got injured in the clash and one person reportedly was hit.

This created confusion and the wood sellers in return attacked the land guards and vandalised the vehicle they brought to the scene [Watch the attached video.]

The police later responded to restore calm to the area.

Some of the wood sellers told Graphic Online that they have no where to go and that they have been paying rent to the land owner.

The incident extended unto the highway and therefore caused a gridlock on the N6 Highway that connects Nsawam in the Eastern Region to Accra.
