Pre-tournament favourite, Christopher Mbii, narrowly lost his dominance in the MTN Invitational golf tournament to Kojo Choi at this year’s men’s Group A event at the Achimota Golf Course last Friday.

Mbii of the Tafo Golf Club and one of the emerging faces of golf in the country, has been in fine form and came into this year’s tournament as a previous winner in 2021.

This made him one of the favourites for the tournament, but Choi came through strongly with his handicap of 10 to upstage the banker and to win the day with 38 points.

Mbii had to settle for the second position with 37 points playing with a handicap of 1 and Kwame Boafo picked the third spot after he bagged 37 points with his handicap of 9.

It was a two-horse race in the ladies Group A contest between the two finest lady golfers in the country, Floria Hurtubise and Vastie Amoafo-Yeboah.

But at the end, Hurtubise proved her superiority over Amoafo-Yeboah after she secured 37 points with a handicap of 14 to pick the ultimate while Amoafo-Yeboah finished with 34 points with her handicap of 25.

Philip Bonney had no problems winning the Men’s Group B event after recording 40 points with his handicap of 24 followed by Peter Quartey-Papafio who recorded 38 points with his handicap of 24 and Justin Butah came third with 37 points with a handicap of 15.

The ladies Group B also saw Charity Vogel claimed the ultimate with 36 points with her handicap of 27 followed by Elizabeth Essel-Koomson who scored 34 points with a handicap of 23.

In the seniors’ category, Jan Vogel won with 32 points playing with a handicap of 15 while Helen Appah won the ladies category with 33 points playing with a handicap of 24.

Joshua Mensah-Larkai won the Longest Drive, Nash Antwi picked the Closest to the Pin award in the men’s category while Jessica Tei picked the ladies category.
