CAF Women’s Champs League: Ampem Darkoa Ladies secure semi-final slot, guaranteed $200,000

Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies are through to the semi-final of the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League after defeating Equatorial Guinea side Huracanes FC 3-1 in their final Group B match on Sunday, November 12.

In a spirited performance, forward Tracy Twum, showcasing her prowess, netted twice while Gnabekwan N-Yanyimaya added another goal to ensure Ampem Darkoa Ladies’ victory and a coveted spot in the semifinals.

Ampem Darkoa Ladies took the lead through Twum in the ninth minute of the game after she converted brilliantly from a free kick after Jennifer Owusuaa had been brought down close to the penalty box.

Twum could have scored her second goal of the game after being played through by Linda Owusu Ansah but her shot went across the post.

The ‘Nana Mma’ went into the break with just the 1-0 goal from Twum and were fortunate not to have surrendered their lead.

From recess, Ampem Darkoa Ladies almost doubled their lead but Twum’s square pass into the path of Maybel Amoyaw was intercepted by the Huracanes goalkeeper.

Huracanes were close to getting their equaliser in the 60th minute but a long-range strike was tipped onto the crossbar by Brown in post for Ampem Darkoa.

Two-goal heroine, Tracy Twum was adjudged the Woman of the Match.

Per their qualification to the semis, the Ghanaians will receive at least $200,000 from CAF as prize money in their debut appearance.
