On Christmas afternoon filled with cheers and gospel melodies, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia surprised attendees with a visit to cheer on Afia Asantewaa Owusu Aduonum in her attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon – Sing-a-thon.
Afia, fueled by passion and determination, started her ambitious journey at midnight on December 24.
Her eyes are on the record currently held by Indian Sunil Waghmare (105 hours in 2012).
Afia’s voice poured forth a captivating blend of gospel and highlife rhythms that echoed through the vibrant Akwaaba Village.
As Afia neared the 48-hour mark, Dr. Bawumia, waving a miniature Ghanaian flag, joined the captivated crowd in thunderous applause.
The surprise arrival of the Vice President electrified the atmosphere, with cheers at the venue.
After spending time soaking in Afia’s performance and exchanging pleasantries with the crowd, Dr. Bawumia was approached by the media for a quick interview.
Beaming with optimism, he said, “Afia has showcased incredible passion and unwavering determination. Witnessing her talent firsthand, I have no doubt she can break this record. Let’s all stand behind her, cheering her on until she sings her way into the record books!”
Dr. Bawumia’s encouragement was met with renewed fervour from the crowd, their voices blending with Afia’s as she continued her historic journey.
