A Ghanaian advocate dedicated to women empowerment, youth leadership and inclusion, Maudlyn Akosua Awuku, has received excellence in the community development category at this year’s Forty under 40 Achievers Awards held in the United Kingdom.
She was among 40 outstanding young individuals in the UK selected for their exceptional commitment to community development.
Ms Awuku also received the People’s Choice award which was the highest award of the night.
The award
The Forty under 40 Awards identify, honour and celebrate a cross-section of the nation’s most influential and accomplished young business leaders under 40 who have committed to business growth, professional excellence, and community service and have risen the ranks of their companies or industries.
Why the award
Ms Awuku who is a gender and youth advocate, was recognised for her steadfast commitment to promoting gender equality and empowering young women to take on political and civic leadership roles.
Her organisation’s focal areas include Gender Equality, Climate Action, and Quality Education, with beneficiaries across Ghana and UK.
The foundation, since its establishment, has also supported young women by distributing sanitary pads and offering them technical and vocational skills training.
Appreciation
Speaking after receiving the award, Ms Awuku expressed gratitude to family, friends, and members of the Anijie Global Foundation team for pushing the organisation’s vision and mission.
“This award is not just mine but to everyone who has supported my journey and whose shoulder I stand on. I am a testament to what opportunities can do in the life of a young girl, and I am dedicated to empowering marginalised young people,” she said.
Advocacy
Ms Awuku also called on the public to include young people in decision-making spaces as they were capable and ready to learn and positively make an impact.
“We need the support of our governments and policymakers to create a conducive environment for women and youth inclusion.
It is time to realise that investing in women and youth is not just a moral obligation but also a smart economic decision. Let us work together to create a world where every woman and young person has the opportunity to reach their full potential,” she stated
