UCC denies operating in Nigeria, calls publication “false and malicious”

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has vehemently denied claims circulating online that its operations have been banned in Nigeria.

The university labels the reports as “false and malicious” and urges the public to disregard them.

According to a press release issued by the UCC on January 4, 2024, the false news originated from an article on Ghanaweb claiming UCC had been prohibited from operating in Nigeria.

The university clarified that it has no official presence in Nigeria, neither through its campus nor through any franchised institution.

Furthermore, UCC emphasized that all international students, including Nigerians, who wish to study at the university must apply directly through its official channels.

The press release highlights that Ghanaweb’s publication appears to have erroneously confused UCC with a different institution, “Cape Coast University” (CCU), further adding to the confusion.

In an attempt to quell concerns and protect its reputation, the UCC reiterated its position as a highly respected academic institution with global recognition. The university pointed to its ranking as the top university in Ghana and West Africa, and seventh in Africa, according to the 2024 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.

To ensure authenticity, the university encouraged individuals and institutions to always verify the legality of any certificate purportedly issued by the university.

In conclusion, the release categorically denied any involvement in Nigeria and strongly condemned the publication of misleading information. The university also urged the public to rely on official sources and exercise caution when encountering online reports.
