President Akuffo Addo and former President John Kufuor’s presence on the New Patriotic Party(NPP) campaign team symbolizes unity within the party, according to political researcher Professor Kobby Mensah. Removing them from the team would have sent the wrong message to both NPP supporters and opponents, particularly the National Democratic Congress(NDC), suggesting internal discord within the party.
In a radio interview monitored by the Ghana News Agency, Prof Mensah highlighted that the campaign team plans to leverage the experiences of these two statesmen to secure victory in the upcoming elections. Following a crucial meeting of the National Executive Council(NEC) in Accra, credible sources informed the media that the team’s objectives include nationwide support mobilization and strategic planning for the 2024 elections.
While recognizing the strength of the campaign team, Prof Mensah clarified that it is unlikely to unsettle the opposition NDC. He pointed out the expertise of individuals like Dan Botwe, who played pivotal roles in Kufuor’s past election triumphs, and Mac Manu, a seasoned professional in campaign and election strategies.
“…I’m not sure it will send them(NDC) shivers, but of course, this is a very powerful team. If you look at Dan Botwe for example, he had been part and parcel of kufuor’s successes in the 2000 and 2024 elections. If you look at Mac Manu, a consummate expert in the field of campaign and election matters,” he said.
