Guinness World Record denies Afua Asantewaa Aduonum’s singing marathon attempt

The Guinness World Record (GWR) has officially confirmed that the recent singing marathon attempt by Afua Asantewaa Aduonum was not successful.
The Ghanaian singer and entrepreneur had embarked on a remarkable endeavour to break the existing record for the longest continuous singing marathon, a feat that demands immense endurance and vocal prowess.

However, the GWR, in response to queries, clarified that the attempt did not meet the criteria required for a successful record-breaking achievement. The singing marathon, a test of both physical and vocal stamina, captivated the attention of enthusiasts and supporters who eagerly awaited the confirmation from the Guinness World Records.

Beginning her marathon on December 24th, 2023, at Akwaaba Village in Accra, Ghana, she sang for 126 hours and 52 minutes, surpassing the previous record of 105 hours set by India’s Sunil Waghmare in March 2012.

Throughout her marathon, Asantewaa received an outpouring of support from prominent figures in Ghana, including musicians like KiDi, Kuami Eugene, Kojo Antwi, and Shatter Wale, as well as actors such as Nana Ama McBrown, Akrobeto, and Fella Makafui and many more. Even Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia showed his support for her endeavour.

However, despite her incredible effort, the Guinness Book of Records has announced that her attempt was not successful after reviewing the evidence.

In a statement shared on their X page, “Unfortunately Afua’s Guinness World Records attempt for the longest singing marathon was not successful, but we hope that she will make another attempt soon. We’ve seen how inspirational it has been for her fans. The evidence check had already begun before Afua requested priority service, so we refunded her payment earlier this month. We wish Afua the best of luck with any future record attempts”, they wrote.

This is a disappointing news for Afua and her fans, who supported her throughout her five-day challenge.
