President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo delivered a significant speech to the nation, addressing pressing issues surrounding land and chieftaincy disputes on Tuesday, February 27th. With concern, he acknowledged the persistent conflicts across the country, emphasizing their role in fostering internal tension and instability.

A focal point of his address was the troubling situation in Bawku, once a bustling town now ravaged by destruction and distrust due to ongoing conflicts. President Akufo-Addo highlighted the unfortunate reality that resources meant for development are being diverted to manage the unrest in Bawku, hampering progress in the region.

Of particular concern is the attractiveness of Bawku to troublemakers and extremists, operating dangerously close to the border. In response, the government has implemented various measures over the years, including the establishment of a special task force dedicated to resolving the chieftaincy dispute.

Moreover, President Akufo-Addo announced the shutdown of radio stations propagating hate speech and incendiary language, in collaboration with the National Communications Authority. Additionally, specialized courts have been set up in Accra and Kumasi to swiftly address criminal matters stemming from the Bawku conflict.

While the government is committed to ensuring security throughout the nation, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of citizen involvement in fostering a peaceful atmosphere. He urged unity and cooperation among all citizens to overcome the challenges facing the country.

In closing, President Akufo-Addo reiterated the government’s determination to secure every inch of the country’s territory. However, he stressed that creating a safe and harmonious environment is a collective responsibility that requires the active participation of all citizens.

The President’s address underscores the gravity of the situation and the need for concerted efforts to resolve conflicts and promote peace and stability across Ghana.
