Accra, Ghana — Ghana is in mourning following the sudden and tragic passing of Deputy Finance Minister John Ampontuah Kumah. The esteemed public servant, also known as Lawyer John Kumah, succumbed to illness at the age of 45, leaving behind a wife and six children. His demise marks the end of a distinguished career dedicated to fostering economic growth and youth empowerment.
John Kumah was widely respected for his integrity and dedication to improving the lives of Ghanaians, particularly in his constituency of Ejisu, Ashanti Region. Throughout his tenure, he championed initiatives aimed at job creation and infrastructure development, earning admiration from colleagues and constituents alike.
Among his notable achievements was his leadership as CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), where he facilitated the training of over 45,000 start-ups through the Presidential Business Support Programme. This initiative led to significant job opportunities for Ghanaian youth, reflecting Kumah’s commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and innovation.
In addition to his contributions to economic development, John Kumah distinguished himself in the legal field, founding the Aduaprokye Chambers and serving as its Managing Partner. His expertise and dedication to justice earned him respect within the legal community.
Politically, Kumah was a stalwart member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), actively involved in grassroots efforts since 1992. He founded the Young Patriots, a youth political activist group within the NPP, further demonstrating his commitment to empowering the next generation of leaders.
President Akufo Addo expressed his condolences, highlighting Kumah’s humility, respectfulness, and efficiency. The President acknowledged Kumah’s legacy as a champion of progress and opportunity for all Ghanaians.
