President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has sent his congratulations to the Ghanaian athletes who participated in the 13th African Games in Accra.
The Ghanaian team achieved a record-breaking total of sixty-eight medals, including nineteen gold, twenty-nine silver, and twenty bronze, making it the country’s most successful performance to date.
In a statement released on Saturday, March 23, 2024, after the conclusion of the games, the President praised the team for their outstanding performance, stating that their achievements have brought honor to Ghana and inspired a new generation of athletes.
“I commend each and every member of the Ghanaian team for their dedication, perseverance, and commitment to excellence. Your outstanding accomplishments have not only brought pride to our nation but have also motivated a new wave of athletes across Ghana. You have showcased the best of Ghana to the world,” he said.
President Akufo-Addo thanked the team and the citizens for their trust in the government and for ignoring the critics who called for the games to be called off.
“I appreciate the people of Ghana for believing in the government’s ability to host the Games for the first time in our history. I am also thankful that you did not heed the doubts of those who questioned our nation’s determination and advised us to cancel the games,” he remarked.
He reiterated his commitment to using sports as a means for national advancement and unity.
“As we celebrate this unprecedented success, let us renew our commitment to using sports to promote national development and unity. Together, we can harness the power of sports to create a stronger, healthier, and more prosperous Ghana for future generations.”
