Mahama Pledges Youthful Government and New Ministry for Young Talent

Report by Akpeleasi Flora- 30/03/2024

Former President John Dramani Mahama, the 2024 Flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has promised to create the youngest cabinet ever in Ghana’s history if elected as president in the upcoming general elections. Mahama emphasized the importance of youth representation in leadership roles, citing the nation’s demographics, which indicate a significant youth population.

At the unveiling of the party’s National Youth Wing Secretariat and Campaign Office, Mahama reiterated his commitment to youth empowerment by vowing to establish a separate Ministry of Youth Development. He criticized the current setup, where the Ministry of Youth and Sports primarily focuses on sports, neglecting broader youth development initiatives.

Mahama’s proposed Ministry of Youth Development aims to mainstream the interests of young people across all sectors of the economy. He emphasized the need to create job opportunities for youth, aligning with his 24-hour economy policy. Mahama plans to collaborate with businesses and industries to encourage youth employment, providing incentives to lower production costs and increase job opportunities.

By prioritizing youth representation in his cabinet and creating a dedicated ministry for youth development, Mahama seeks to harness the potential of Ghana’s young population, ensuring their active participation in shaping the nation’s future.

With a focus on youth empowerment and inclusive governance, Mahama’s vision aims to address the aspirations and concerns of Ghana’s young generation, paving the way for a brighter and more inclusive future for the country.
