Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed his lack of surprise at the results of a survey conducted by Global Info Analytics.

The survey projects that 65% of voters believe Ghana is heading in the wrong direction. Additionally, 62% disapprove of President Akufo-Addo’s performance, while 52% believe the government has performed very poorly.

During an interview Mr. Gyamfi stated that Ghanaians are witnessing the current hardships under the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP). He criticized the Akufo-Addo-led administration for the mismanagement of the economy, stating that it is nothing to write home about.

Using a quote from Bob Marley, Mr. Gyamfi emphasized that Ghanaians are experiencing the hardship firsthand. He mentioned the high prices of fuel, basic food commodities, building materials, and clothing, which have made it difficult for the majority of Ghanaians to cope. Mr. Gyamfi argued that there has been no improvement in disposable income, while prices continue to rise.

In addition to the economic challenges, Mr. Gyamfi highlighted the public debt situation, high lending rates, and the depreciation of the Ghana cedi against the U.S. dollar. He argued that these factors have had a negative impact on businesses and, consequently, the electorate’s confidence in the NPP government.

He stated that he is not surprised by the survey results, as the high cost of fuel, high lending rates, the unemployment rate, and the debt crisis have affected all business owners, regardless of their political affiliation. He believes that these hardships have led the majority of voters to express a lack of confidence in the current direction of the country.
