Ashaiman Circuit Court imposes fines on siblings for assaulting public officers

In a recent ruling at the Ashaiman Circuit Court, two siblings, Safianu Osumanu and Aishatu Osumanu, were fined GH¢1,320 for verbally assaulting four public officers. Presided over by Judge Simon Gaga, the court handed down fines of GH¢720 to Safianu and GH¢600 to Aishatu. The siblings face a three-month prison term if they fail to pay the fines.

Initially pleading not guilty, the siblings changed their plea to guilty on five counts of assault on public officers, offensive conduct, and disturbance of court proceedings.

According to Police Chief Inspector Christian Oscar Norgbedzi, who prosecuted the case, the incident involved the siblings attacking and insulting public officers including a janitor, a prosecutor, and two Court Warrant Officers at the Ashaiman District Court premises.
