University student killed, another injured in Jebel Boma road ambush

A university student was killed and another one injured in a road ambush in Jebel Boma County of the Greater Pibor Administrative Area on Tuesday, a local official said.

The area’s secretary-general, Peter Lebelek, told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that the incident took place when the students were attacked by an unknown armed group near the Ethi area of Jebel Boma County on Tuesday.

He said the two students were walking on foot to visit their families in Pibor County when they fell into the ambush.

“The students were heading to the Pibor area from Ethiopia’s Dima area. On their way to the Ethi area, Jebel Boma County, they were ambushed. One was killed and the other one sustained gunshot wounds. The two study at Gambella University in Ethiopia,” he narrated.

The local official pointed out that an investigation has been launched into the incident.

“No arrest has been made so far. And we do not know the motive of the attack. But investigations are ongoing,” he said.

Jebel Boma County is of the counties in the newly established Greater Pibor Area. The county shares borders with Ethiopia.
