In this regard, no player has had a bigger impact in the past year than Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen, who became the first African ‘Capocannoniere’ winner in Serie A history, as his 26 goals helped to power Napoli to a stunning Scudetto triumph!

In La Liga, Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze continues to develop into a brilliant all-round attacking player who is attracting major interest in the transfer market, while Moroccans Youssef En-Nesyri and Yassine Bounou are fundamental to Sevilla and played key roles in the club’s record-extending seventh UEFA Europa League triumph.
In addition, Ghana’s Inaki Williams has grown into a key man for Athletic Bilbao, while Abdessamad ‘Abde’ Ezzalzouli was one of the driving forces behind Osasuna’s excellent campaign – though the Moroccan is owned by Barcelona and it remains to be seen what the Catalan club will do with the 21-year-old ahead of the new season.
In the Premier League, Egyptian Mohamed Salah continues to rack up goals and assists for Liverpool at an incredible rate, while Algerian Riyad Mahrez was an important squad member of Manchester City’s all-conquering side and will be looking to get back to being a regular starter under Pep Guardiola’s guidance.
Thomas Partey of Ghana was a driving force behind Arsenal’s impressive (but ultimately unsuccessful) title bid, Nigerian Alex Iwobi shrugged off Everton’s chaotic campaign to have a fine individual season, and his compatriot Frank Onyeka was quietly one of the most effective and intelligent defensive midfielders thanks to his great work for Brentford.
