Akotoku Academy made a big leap to the top position on the Ghana Professional Boxing League after Ernest Ampah scored a majority points decision over Patrick Cudjoe of Wisdom Boxing Gym in a super welterweight contest at the Bukom Boxing Arena, Accra.
The judges scored the fight 58-56, 58-56, 57-57 in favour of Ampah whose victory sent his gym into pole position with 26 points from 11 bouts, one point adrift of second-placed Charles Quartey Boxing Foundation (CQBF) after Fight Night 11.
Joseph Akai Netteh of CBQF recorded a third round technical Knockout (TKO) victory over Moses Nii Ayi Hammond of Fit Square Gym in a flyweight contest after the referee, David Nettey, stopped the fight one minute and eight seconds into the round to save Hammond from further punishment.
The victory kept CBQF in strong contention for the ultimate prize at the end of the second season of the league having won eight bouts with two losses and a draw so far.
Eric Korley also recorded a third round TKO victory against Haruna Oku of Seconds Out Gym in a bantamweight contest to give his gym its seventh win of the competition and perched at the seventh spot on the log with 22 points.
There were notable victories for Sea View Gym and Black Panthers Gym on Fight Night 11. Robert Bruce of Black Panthers Gym scored a unanimous points victory over Michael Bibi of Attoh Quarshie Gym in a welterweight fight with the judges scoring it 58-53, 60-53, 60-53.
It was only the fourth victory in 11 bouts for Black Panthers which sits in the 10th spot on the league table but share the same points build-up (12) with ninth-placed Sea View Gym which experienced a rare win in the competition after David Tagoe stopped Ebenezer Devos of Palm Spring/ The Gym with a second round TKO in a super bantamweight contest.
