Ghanaian football icon Alhaji Karim Gruzah celebrates 80th birthday, vows to continue speaking truth

Alhaji Karim Gruzah, the Chairman of King Faisal Football Club and a member of the Black Stars Management Committee, marks his 80th birthday today, expressing a steadfast commitment to uphold truthfulness in all his endeavours.

Gruzah, a prominent figure in Ghanaian football known for his outspoken commentary and knack for unearthing talented players, has pledged to adopt a more measured approach in delivering candid assessments when called upon.

In an interview with Peace FM earlier today, Gruzah, credited with discovering national luminaries like Sulley Muntari, Sammy Kuffuor, and Shilla Alhassan, shared that he is now in better health after a brief bout of illness.

Undeterred by potential consequences, Gruzah affirmed his dedication to speaking the unvarnished truth, stressing that his longevity can be attributed to the blessings of God.

Recently, Gruzah’s relationship with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has been strained, prompting him to disclose that his appointment to the Black Stars Management Committee was facilitated by the government, not the GFA.

Following his team’s relegation from the 2022–23 Ghana Premier League, Gruzah has been at odds with the Kurt Okraku–led GFA, even hinting at the possibility of filing a complaint with the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

As Gruzah enters his ninth decade, the footballing community looks back on his storied career with admiration and anticipation for what lies ahead, as this legend continues to be a torchbearer for honesty and integrity in Ghanaian football.
