John Laryea maintained his unbeaten record as he successfully defended his WBO Africa Featherweight title in a dominant fashion against Gabriel Odoi Laryea at the Bukom Boxing Arena last Saturday.
The champion showcased his superiority throughout the match, delivering relentless body and head shots, leaving Odoi Laryea with little chance to mount a challenge.
The bout, though admirable for Odoi Laryea’s endurance, lacked excitement and ultimately concluded in the 12th round.
Referee Roger Barnor intervened to stop the fight at two minutes and 38 seconds of the 12th round, ensuring Odoi Laryea’s safety from further punishment.
Lamptey steals show
Meanwhile, the highlight of Fight Night 14 of the Professional Boxing League was the remarkable professional debut of Isaac Odartey Lamptey from the Ghana Prisons Service.
Lamptey exhibited bravery and exceptional ring craft, securing a fourth-round TKO victory over the highly-rated Godsway Dzivor from the Attoh Quarshie Gym.
The exciting contest saw Lamptey establishing dominance in the third round, with Dzivor appearing defenceless against his relentless attacks until the bell saved him.
Lamptey continued his assault in the fourth round, eventually delivering a devastating right hook that sent Dzivor crashing to the canvas.
Dzivor attempted to rise but appeared dazed, prompting referee David Mills to halt the fight amidst ecstatic cheers from the crowd.
After Fight Night 14, Charles Quartey Boxing Foundation moved to the top of the league log, thanks to George Akoto’s unanimous points victory over Haruna Mohammed of Wisdom Gym in a cruiserweight contest.
The judges scored the bout 60-54, 58-55, 59-55 in favour of Akoto whose win took his gym’s point tally to 34, representing 11 wins, one draw and two losses.
In other bouts, Emmanuel Quartey of Bronx Gym defeated Jerry Lartey of Ghana Armed Forces in a welterweight contest that sparked off a disturbance in protest against the controversial decision. The judges scored the fight 56-59, 59-55, 56-58 in favour of Quartey.
Alidu Sulaiman of Black Panthers Gym scored a third-round knockout win against George Faho Mensah of Panix Gym in a super-middleweight encounter, Mustapha Kamoko also recorded a third-round knockout victory against Francis Mensah in s super-middleweight contest, Benjamin Nii Saka Bulley of Palms Spring / The Gym earned a fourth round TKO victory against George Amuzu of Fit Square Gym.
