Stephen Appiah donates to flood victims in Volta Region

Former Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah, along with Wembley Sports Complex has donated bunch of items to flood victims affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage in the Volta Region.

The donation took place at the Roman Catholic school in Mepe, in the Volta Region on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.

1tems donated include mattresses, foodstuff, among other relevant things.

Member of Parliament for North Tongu constituency, Okudzeto Ablakwa, who received the items on behalf of the people expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the football legend, and Wembley Sports Complex for their generosity and support.

However, the people used the opportunity to urge Ghanaians to emulates this act of kindness and support them through this hard time.

Background

The Volta River Authority (VRA) on September 16, 2023, started controlling the Akosombo dam due to excess water in the reservoir due to significant levels of rainfall.

According to VRA, dam spillage occurs when water in the reservoir reaches its safe operating level, which calls for the need release water from the reservoir to make room to accommodate incoming flows.

Following this action, thousands of people in the Tongu districts, among other areas in the Volta Region have been affected by the dam spillage, leading to submerged houses, business disruption, disrupted electricity supply among other catastrophes.
