President Unveils Ghana’s Readiness for African Games In his State of the Nation address yesterday, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced Ghana’s readiness to host the 13th edition of the African Games, marking the first time the country will welcome athletes from across the continent for this prestigious event. Despite financial challenges during preparations, the President expressed pride in the completion of state-of-the-art sporting facilities, including the Games village in Borteyman and the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. With excitement building ahead of the games, the President urged all Ghanaians to extend a warm welcome to visitors and show support for the participants. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo highlighted the significance of hosting the African Games, emphasizing the dedication and perseverance demonstrated by Ghana in overcoming obstacles to ensure a successful event. “It gives me great pleasure to report that all the preparations are ready for Ghana to welcome sports men and women from around the continent to participate in the 13th edition of the African Games,” he declared, underscoring the monumental achievement of hosting the event for the first time in the nation’s history.

Reflecting on the challenges faced during preparations, the President acknowledged the resilience of the Ghanaian people in navigating financial constraints and pressing ahead with the ambitious endeavor. “It has taken a lot of courage to have persisted with the decision to host the games, especially when our financial problems came in the midst of the preparations. But I am glad we went ahead,” he remarked, highlighting the determination to uphold Ghana’s commitment to hosting the games despite adversity.

With preparations now complete, including the refurbishment of long-abandoned facilities such as the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, the country stands ready to showcase its hospitality and sporting prowess on the continental stage. “The preparations are all complete, and I was excited and very pleased with what I saw at Borteyman when I went to commission the Games village some two (2) weeks ago,” the President enthused, emphasizing the high-quality infrastructure that will leave a lasting legacy beyond the games.
