ECG Assures Ghanaians there is No Dumsor Despite load shedding

In a bid to allay fears and dispel rumors, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has adamantly declared that Ghana is not experiencing dumsor, despite recent power outages. Laila Yakutia, the external communications manager at ECG, reassured the public that there is no need for a timetable for load shedding, emphasizing that the current power cuts are attributed to other factors.

Yakutia urged citizens to disregard any information claiming the return of dumsor, emphasizing that the management is diligently addressing the challenges facing the power sector. “The recent power cuts are due to other factors, and dumsor is not back,” Yakutia emphasized, seeking to quell concerns among Ghanaians.

However, amidst these assurances, ECG has announced its intention to disconnect major institutions, including Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, 37 Military Hospital, and Ridge Hospital, over unpaid debts. This move has sparked concerns about the potential impact on essential services provided by these institutions.

According to ECG, the ongoing load shedding is primarily a result of the debts owed by these institutions and not indicative of a resurgence of dumsor. The company is adamant about addressing the issue of outstanding debts to ensure a stable power supply for all consumers.

The announcement comes at a time when Ghana’s power sector has been under scrutiny due to intermittent power outages experienced in various parts of the country. Despite assurances from the government and utility providers, concerns about the reliability of the power supply persist among citizens and businesses alike.

Ghanaians have expressed frustration over the recurrent power cuts, which have affected daily activities and businesses, leading to disruptions in productivity and economic activities. Many are calling for more transparency and accountability from ECG and other stakeholders in the power sector to address the underlying issues effectively.

As the debate over dumsor rages on, ECG remains resolute in its stance that Ghana is not experiencing the return of the infamous power crisis. However, with debts looming over key institutions and power outages persisting, the future of Ghana’s energy sector remains uncertain, leaving many to wonder when and how these challenges will be resolved.
