In a keynote address at the 2024 Suma Akwantu Kesie Festival, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban S.K. Bagbin, has called on Ghanaians to uphold the rule of law and protect the interests of the people.

Emphasizing the importance of unity and resilience, Bagbin expressed confidence that together, Ghanaians can overcome any obstacle and emerge stronger and more united than ever before.

Under the theme “Culture for Development,” Bagbin highlighted the pivotal role that Ghana’s cultural heritage plays in shaping the country’s future trajectory. He emphasized that traditions, customs, and values serve as the bedrock upon which collective identity is built, paving the way for sustainable development and progress.

Bagbin also acknowledged the passage of the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill by Parliament, describing it as a testament to the collective commitment to upholding Ghanaian values and principles. He reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to seeing the Bill become law, emphasizing that it safeguards the moral fabric of Ghanaian society against external influences and colonial manipulation.

Calling on all Ghanaians to stand firm in their resolve to protect the country’s traditional values and norms, Bagbin stressed the importance of preserving the dignity and sanctity of the Ghanaian and African identity. He commended traditional leaders for their advocacy in preserving the country’s true values and urged them to continue their efforts.

Bagbin praised the Suma Traditional Council for their visionary leadership and their initiative to establish an ultramodern social center in honor of the late Nana Kwadwo Adinkra, the inventor of Adinkra symbols. The Adinkra Centre, according to Bagbin, will serve as a beacon of hope and opportunity, providing invaluable resources for youth training, cultural education, and socio-economic empowerment.
