In a bid to fill the vacant seat left by the late John Kumah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has cleared all nine individuals who picked up nomination forms to contest in the NPP parliamentary primary for the Ejisu constituency.

The party opened nominations on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, and the vetting committee conducted the vetting process on Saturday, April 6, 2024.

Following the vetting, the NPP has scheduled the election of a parliamentary candidate for the Ejisu constituency on Saturday, April 13, 2024. The party will soon issue guidelines for the primary in preparation for the upcoming Ejisu by-election. Additionally, the committee also conducted a ballot for the candidates.

Evans Nimako, the Director of Elections of the New Patriotic Party, expressed that the committee cleared all nine aspirants in order to provide ample opportunities for party members interested in the race. He further stated that the party’s national executives will meet with the candidates on Tuesday and advised them to conduct their campaigns in a unifying manner.

“The Committee has recommended that all of them be allowed to participate in this contest. Also, we’ve taken them through the ballot, and so balloting has also been done. We’ve informed them that the National Executives of the party will meet them on Tuesday. They have been advised by the Committee to conduct a campaign exercise that will bring unity,” Mr. Nimako added.

With the candidates now cleared for the NPP parliamentary primary in the Ejisu constituency, the stage is set for an exciting and competitive race to determine the party’s representative in the upcoming by-election.
