George Afriyie signals intent to appeal disqualification from GFA Presidential race

Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidential aspirant, George Afriyie, is taking steps to contest the decision of the GFA Elections Committee, which disqualified him from the race.

Afriyie’s bid was rejected due to a violation of “Article 13(2)(j) of the Ghana Football Association statutes, 2019,” and a failure to meet the required number of Ghana Football Association members in support of his candidacy.

FULL RULING: Why George Afriyie was disqualified from the GFA Presidential elections

Having previously contested the 2019 Ghana FA presidential elections, Afriyie now has a three-day window to lodge his appeal.

He has already activated the appeal process and requested unedited video recordings of his vetting. In a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Elections Committee, Afriyie expressed his intention to challenge the decision.

“I am very much aggrieved at the Decision and intend to appeal,” the letter states.

“I therefore request that I be furnished with the unedited video recordings of my vetting before the Elections Committee as well as the unedited video recordings of the purported calls with President Leslie Kuuku Bartels and Mr. Jeffrey Asare referred to in 1(ix & x) of the Decision to enable me to prosecute my appeal.”

Additionally, there is potential for the much-anticipated election, initially slated for September 27 in Tamale, to face postponement due to ongoing legal proceedings.
