Kuenyehia Prize invites entries for its 2023 Prize

Kuenyehia Trust for Contemporary Art has announced a call for West African visual artists between the ages of 18 and 40 years to compete for the prestigious Kuenyehia Prize for Contemporary Art.

Limited to paintings, drawings, photographs, sculpture, carvings, and installations, the Kuenyehia Prize supports and develops West African artists to build sustainable careers in art.

Eligible artists have until December 31, 2023, to submit work (through www.kuenyehiaprize.org) to compete for prize money of ten thousand United States Dollars ($10,000).

The winner, to be announced in January next year, will be selected by an independent jury based on the trajectory of the artist’s work and their artistic statement.

Shortlisted

All shortlisted artists benefit from the Trust’s Creative Accelerator Programme which provides artists intensive practical training, mentoring, and exposure to global best practices. In addition, shortlisted artists benefit from opportunities to participate in local and international exhibitions and fairs.

Last year, the Prize attracted 168 competing entries from artists in 14 West African countries with the top prize going to Malian artist Daouda Traore.

Nigerian Odinakachi Okoroafor Kingsley and Ghanaian Dela Anya came second and third respectively.
