In a recent interview on AIT’s Morning Dew, Mr. Mohammed Mustapha Samba, a member of the NDC Communications Bureau, shed light on President’s stance regarding the controversial anti-LGBTQ law. When questioned about potential factors that could deter the president from signing the bill, Samba emphasized the president’s commitment to thorough analysis. According to Samba, the president, echoing the sentiment that he is an individual while the country belongs to 38 million people, asserted that he wouldn’t hastily approve a bill. However, he hinted that when the need arises, he might consider it.

Samba anticipates that the president might send the bill back to parliament for refinement, expressing concerns about the legislation’s structure and the severity of actions outlined for those involved. Samba emphasized the importance of crafting laws with care to avoid unintended harm to the very people they aim to protect.

Contrastingly, Mr. Joel Yamoah, an NPP Communicator, advocates for the immediate signing of the bill, suggesting that amendments can be made later. Yamoah cautioned against external influence, urging leaders to resist Western pressure. He proposed seeking partnerships with the Middle East, Russia, and China to secure financial support, foreseeing potential fallout if the West withdraws aid post-bill approval.

Yamoah further urged leaders, specifically addressing Dr. Bawumia and ex-President Mahama, to explore collaborations with the Middle East, emphasizing the need for prudent financial management when borrowing. He recommended ensuring borrowed funds align with their intended purpose, allowing the country to repay debts promptly.

As the nation awaits the president’s decision, a nuanced discourse within political circles reflects the complexity of the LGBTQ law and its potential implications on both domestic and international fronts.
