Ghana Marks 67th Independence Day with Grand Parade and Presidential Optimism

In a vibrant celebration held in Koforida, the capital town of the Eastern Region, Ghana commemorated its 67th Independence Day Anniversary on March 6, 2024. The festivities, themed “Our Democracy, Our Pride,” featured a national parade and a compelling speech by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

President Akufo-Addo highlighted his government’s achievements, particularly emphasizing the transformative impact of the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) program. The event drew distinguished guests, including Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara, who served as the Special Guest of Honour.

During his address, President Akufo-Addo praised the success of the Free SHS policy, showcasing the highest-ever enrollment of 503,000 first-year students, breaking historical records. The policy aims to eliminate financial barriers to education, unlocking the potential of Ghana’s youth and laying the groundwork for a brighter future.

While celebrating achievements, the President acknowledged the ongoing challenge of providing quality education to all Ghanaian children. He emphasized the need for schools to equip students with skills for the modern world, particularly in science and technology, fostering competitiveness in the global economy.

President Akufo-Addo urged a collective effort in instilling Ghanaian values beyond the classroom, emphasizing that cultural identity extends beyond music, dance, food, and fashion. He called for a consensus on cherished values to be transmitted to every generation.

Expressing optimism about the nation’s economic future, the President acknowledged past challenges but highlighted a breakthrough on the horizon, aligning with the government’s initiatives. As the celebration concluded, he extended warm wishes to all Ghanaians, praying for God’s blessings upon Ghana to make it great and strong.
